ICEPCVE Director

Inter-governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) is the first Regional Economic Community in Africa to develop and validate a Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (P/CVE) strategy and consequently forming a Centre of Excellence for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism.
The formation of IGAD Centre of Excellence for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (ICEPCVE) was a timely intervention in Eastern Africa, a region which has been a target of violent extremists with devastating consequences. The Centre has realised significant progress in the implementation of the Regional Strategy and growth in advancing regional support in P/CVE.
ICEPCVE has been integral in promotion of non-coercive strategies to tackle violent extremism threat in the region through research and innovation, strategic communications, community outreach and capacity building of state and non-state actors engaging in P/CVE. There is need more than ever before to coordinate and harmonize efforts to prevent and counter violent extremism in the region
The Centre strives to amass a critical movement of good people actively involved in P/CVE in the region. Over the years, ICEPCVE has built a vibrant regional network of civil society organisations, youth, women, researchers, teachers, religious leaders and media practitioners across the IGAD region. We remain aware of the fact that recruitment efforts for the violent extremists’ organisations continue thus the Centre remains dedicated to expanding its network.
I remain grateful for the support of the Member States, funding partners, stakeholders and friends towards P/CVE.
